Since Michael was first elected as City Attorney in 2014, he has brought his private sector experiences of legal success, hard work, and professionalism to the office of the City Attorney. Estimates show that he and his team of in-house attorneys have protected over $150,000,000 of your tax-dollars by aggressively fighting for the City, defending our police officers in difficult cases, and by not taking a settlement approach to lawsuits.
Michael has aggressively fought State mandates, won legal battles fighting against high density housing development; and recently won against the State of California to recover $5,200,000 of your tax-dollars, and Michael is pursuing another $22,400,000 of your tax-dollars in the same lawsuit from the State.
In addition to winning many large, high stakes lawsuits, the new in-house Criminal Prosecutor program that Michael created in 2017 has also been a huge success. The City Attorney’s Prosecutor has prosecuted thousands of crimes that impact our quality of life here in Huntington Beach.
